Rylie Walsh, a dedicated member of the Princeville FFA Chapter in Illinois, has been awarded a $5,000 Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) Grant from the National FFA Organization. This prestigious grant will help her enhance her dairy cattle herd and grow her agricultural ambitions.
Walsh plans to utilize the funds for essential farming supplies, including hay bale rings, feed, supplements, and new show equipment. These tools will enable her to prepare her Jersey cattle for county and state-level exhibitions, a core aspect of her SAE project.
Inspired by her grandfather’s passion for showing cattle, Walsh’s project focuses on hard work and animal care. “I’ve learned how to work hard with each animal to help them reach their highest potential,” she shares. Her commitment to improving her herd also aligns with her desire to maintain her family’s farming legacy.
Applying for the grant was a straightforward process, Walsh explains, noting that members can seek guidance from their FFA advisors to complete the application. She encourages other FFA members to explore SAE opportunities, highlighting how they can transform a passion for agriculture into meaningful projects.
Beyond personal growth, Walsh recognizes the broader impact of her work. During fairs, she enjoys interacting with visitors who meet her calves, using these moments to educate the public about livestock and farming practices.
“SAEs teach people about agriculture,” she says, reflecting on the positive influence these projects have on communities.
Walsh’s dedication exemplifies the opportunities available through the FFA’s programs. By blending education, passion, and community involvement, her project is poised to inspire others in agriculture.
