Hands-on knowledge is irreplaceable when it comes to farming practices, and a new panel discussion in east-central Illinois offers local producers and landowners a chance to learn from experienced farmers. Scheduled for March 26 from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lawrence County Extension Office in Lawrenceville, this free program welcomes those interested in reducing soil and nutrient loss on their fields.
At the session, three seasoned farmers – Adam Buchanan, Jon Buchanan, and Terry Dahmer – will share the challenges and successes they have faced while managing soil loss over the years. Their practical insights are intended to help attendees adopt effective conservation techniques that protect soil health, improve crop performance, and boost profitability. The discussion will also touch on the Illinois Nutrient Loss Reduction Strategy, exploring methods to preserve water quality and support local economies by minimizing nutrient runoff that affects waterways from nearby communities all the way downstream to the Gulf of Mexico.
In addition to the educational presentations, the event offers a networking opportunity with other producers as well as access to information on cost-share programs for conservation practices. A light breakfast will be served to fuel conversation and idea exchange. For registration and more details, interested individuals can visit the provided website or contact local organizers via email or phone. Requests for reasonable accommodations are encouraged early to ensure all participants can benefit from this valuable gathering. It offers practical solutions for future challenges.
