The International Farm Youth Exchange (IFYE) program, renowned for its cross-cultural education and global awareness initiatives, is seeking host families in Illinois for a three-week hosting period.
Two participants from Thailand and Taiwan will be visiting Illinois from June 19 to September 8, with each participant staying with a host family for three weeks. A total of six hosts are needed to accommodate these visitors.
While a farming background is not required, some interest in agriculture is preferred as the IFYE program aims to expose participants to Illinois' vibrant agricultural landscape. The visiting participants, aged 24 and 25, bring diverse agricultural interests. One participant grew up on a durian farm and is passionate about photography, graphic design, and video production. The other participant holds a bioengineering degree and has a keen interest in environmental issues and agricultural insurance.
To apply as a host for an IFYE participant, interested families can submit an application online through the official IFYE website. Applicants will undergo background checks, and Carolyn Hansen, the Illinois state coordinator and interim executive director for IFYE, will also conduct home visits to ensure a suitable environment for the participants.
Hosting an IFYE participant opens the door to intercultural understanding and friendship. It provides an opportunity to share knowledge, cultural experiences, and create lasting memories. For more information and inquiries, please contact Carolyn Hansen at 309-261-1705.
Join this enriching cultural exchange by opening your Illinois home to IFYE participants this summer. Together, let's foster global connections and celebrate the beauty of diversity.
