The Annual 4-H Blue Ribbon Livestock Auction is scheduled for Saturday, August 2, at the Ogle County Fairgrounds located at 1440 N Limekiln Road in Oregon, Illinois.
Organized by the 4-H Auction Committee, this event invites the public to attend and show support for youth livestock programs by bidding on high-quality 4-H animals.
The auction begins at 3 p.m. in the Beef Arena and will feature a wide range of animals raised and presented by 4-H members. This year’s auction includes market hogs, lambs, beef cattle, goats, poultry, rabbits, and dairy baskets. Champion and Reserve Champion carcasses of beef, swine, lamb, and goat will also be available.
Buyers can choose to send their purchased animals to a local processing plant or resell them through a slaughterhouse. Transport to processing facilities will be arranged by the auction organizers.
A floor price will be established on auction day based on current market values, and a price list will be made available. The top market animals, such as Champion and Reserve Champion entries, will be sold first.
The auction order is as follows: beef carcass, live beef, sheep carcass, live sheep, poultry, rabbits, dairy basket, dairy and meat goat wethers, swine carcass, live swine, and additional live beef and swine lots.
Auction flyers are available at the Ogle County Extension Office, located at 421 W Pines Road, Suite 10, in Oregon. Flyers and event details are also posted online at the University of Illinois Extension website. For those unable to attend, bidding arrangements can be made by calling 815-732-2191.
This annual event is a great way to support local youth and celebrate their dedication to agriculture through 4-H project work.
