Williamsfield Ag Day unites community and agriculture

Williamsfield Ag Day unites community and agriculture

By Andi Anderson

Williamsfield, a small rural town, comes alive each year during the Ag Day Festival, an event that celebrates the importance of agriculture and the strong sense of community.

Initially known as the “Berry Festival,” the celebration was rebranded as Ag Day when the local FFA chapter stepped in to save it after a shortage of volunteers. Today, the festival is a community-wide event, drawing people from all over the state and beyond.

Ag Day features a variety of activities that cater to people of all ages. Younger children enjoy grain pits, straw scrambles, and a petting zoo, while older participants get involved in the Ag Olympics and view the equipment showcases.

A morning worship service and a Bingo game for seniors round out the festivities, ensuring fun for all generations.

The event is a true display of volunteerism, with over 140 volunteers, including parents, 4-H members, and the Williamsfield FFA, making it possible.

The festival has grown in size and impact, thanks to the efforts of the local FFA, whose advisor, Kent Rigg, initially helped bring the event back.

This year was extra special with the attendance of Illinois FFA state officers, who engaged with community members, sharing their experiences and inspiring the next generation of agricultural leaders.

Ag Day is more than just a fun event. It’s a celebration of the town’s agricultural roots and the hard work that binds the community together. With the dedication of the Williamsfield FFA, this festival will continue to thrive for years to come.
