Whiskey Acre's Straight Bourbon Whiskey has been named Illinois' best craft whiskey at the 2023 Heartland Whiskey Competition. The competition, which was sponsored in part by the IL Corn Marketing Board, drew entries from more than half the U.S. states.
The competition was judged by a panel of experts from the American Craft Spirits Association (ACSA). The judges evaluated each whiskey blind, meaning they did not know which distillery produced it.
Whiskey Acre's Straight Bourbon Whiskey was praised by the judges for its smooth taste and complex flavors. It was also noted for its use of 100% Illinois corn, which gave it a unique flavor profile.
In addition to winning the Best of Illinois award, Whiskey Acre's Straight Bourbon Whiskey also won a silver medal in the American Straight Bourbon category.
Other Illinois winners at the competition included:
• Best Flavored Whiskey: Fayette County Fire Red Hot Cinnamon Whiskey
• Best Light Whiskey: Star Union Spirits American Corn Series Cabernet Sauvignon
• Best Rye Whiskey: Whiskey Acres Straight Rye Whiskey
