Planting Progress in Illinois: Corn and Soybean Acres Increase

llinois farmers continued to make progress in planting corn and soybeans last week, despite cooler and wetter conditions in some parts of the state. According to the USDA's latest report, as of Sunday, 18% of corn has been planted, a significant increase from the previous week's 10% and above the five-year average of 11%.

Similarly, soybean planting has made substantial progress, with 15% of the crop already planted, up from 4% the previous week and exceeding the average of 6%. Winter wheat heading is also ahead of average at 7%, with the crop receiving a good to excellent rating of 78%.

While the cooler and wetter weather may have caused some initial concerns about soil moisture levels and planting delays, farmers are still on track to complete their planting in the coming weeks. These planting progress updates are positive indicators for the state's agricultural industry and the overall U.S. food supply.
