Variety and Beauty Abound at Richardson Farm's Tulip Festival in Illinois

Variety and Beauty Abound at Richardson Farm's Tulip Festival in Illinois

Richardson Farm in Spring Grove, Illinois, has announced the opening of its popular tulip festival, which is expected to have over a million flowers in bloom this year.

The 12-acre tulip treasure trove will be open to the public from 11 a.m. on Thursday. Although all the one million tulips are unlikely to bloom at the same time due to different varieties planted at different times, Richardson expects at least 300,000 to be ready by the opening day.

The tulips are expected to remain in bloom through May 7, according to Richardson. The farm, which covers 500 acres, offers more than 60 varieties of tulips and has planted enough tulips to fill 12 football fields.

This year’s tulip festival could be particularly special as the bulbs that were planted first are now producing flowers. George Richardson, the farm's owner, said that they had planted 300,000 tulip bulbs each year for three years and that this year should be something to see.

The festival will have live music on weekends, drinks, smoothies, and food trucks. The festival will be open from Tuesday to Sunday from 11 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The farm charges $16 for those aged four and up on weekdays, which includes one free tulip per paid admission. On Saturdays and Sundays, the cost is $16 for ages four to 12 and $19 for ages 13 and older, with one free tulip per paid admission.

Additional flowers can be purchased for $2 a stem, and children under three can enter for free. The annual event draws thousands of visitors during its season.
