The Illinois FFA is breaking down barriers and providing a new opportunity for students with special education needs to showcase their talents in agriculture. The 2023 Agriculture Skills Showcase is open to all students and highlights various areas of interest, including public speaking, career preparation, food science, ag mechanics, and natural resources.
Through this showcase, students have the opportunity to meet with judges and discuss their submitted work, regardless of their background. Jennifer Waters with Facilitating Coordination in Agricultural Education (FCAE) stresses the importance of providing all students with the opportunity to gain feedback and valuable experience to prepare them for life after high school.
The event is geared toward middle and high school ag education students and FFA members with a learning disability, IEP, or 504 Plan. With a submission deadline of April 24th and optional interviews in early May, the Agriculture Skills Showcase is an excellent example of the FFA's commitment to providing equal opportunities for all students.
