The Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute is set to take place from June 7-9 and is a collaborative effort between the Illinois Pork Producers Association and the Illinois Beef Association. The event provides an opportunity for young individuals aged 16-20 to become actively involved in the livestock industry and agriculture.
The program focuses on leadership, citizenship, and communication skills through hands-on experiences. This year's trip will take place in Fair Oaks, Indiana, and will cover topics such as pork, beef, and dairy production, research, and consumer information. Participants need not be from pork, beef, or dairy-producing families, but they must exhibit a sincere interest in the livestock industry and agriculture.
Registration for the event is open until May 1, and a maximum of 20 students will be accepted. Interested students can find the registration link on the respective organizations' websites and social media channels. Notifications of acceptance will be made within one week of the application deadline, and a $150 registration fee will be required to attend the trip, with all other trip expenses covered by ILLI.
Tour locations include Funk's Farm Trust, Kilgus Farmstead, Fair Oaks Farm, and the University of Illinois Champaign-Urbana. The Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute is a fantastic opportunity for young individuals to learn about the livestock industry, develop leadership skills, and gain hands-on experience in agriculture.
