Whitley County Field Day Brings Latest Farming Insights and Training

By Andi Anderson

Farmers and agriculture professionals will have an opportunity to learn about the latest farming practices and industry developments at the Whitley County Northeast Purdue Ag Center Field Day PARP - East District. The educational event is scheduled for September 9, 2026, at the Northeast Purdue Ag Center in Columbia City, Indiana.

The program will run from 8:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. EST, with registration taking place from 8:00 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. The event is designed to provide valuable information that can help producers make informed decisions in their farming operations.

Participants will have the chance to attend sessions covering a wide range of important agricultural topics. One of the featured areas is weed identification and control, which will help farmers recognize common weed problems and learn effective management techniques. Proper weed control remains essential for protecting crop yields and improving field productivity.

Another important topic is late-season crop scouting. Experts will discuss how farmers can monitor crop conditions before harvest, identify potential issues, and make management decisions that support better outcomes. Crop scouting plays a key role in maintaining crop health and maximizing production.

The event will also focus on cover crops and soil health. These practices are becoming increasingly important as farmers seek ways to improve soil quality, reduce erosion, and support long-term sustainability. Attendees will learn how cover crops can contribute to healthier and more productive farmland.

In addition, participants will receive information regarding the 2026 ESA Regulatory Update, helping them stay informed about current regulations that may affect agricultural operations. Understanding regulatory changes is important for maintaining compliance and planning future farm activities.

Farm safety will be another major area of discussion. The harvest safety session will highlight best practices that can help reduce risks during one of the busiest periods of the farming season. Safety awareness remains an essential part of successful farm management.

The field day will conclude with an agricultural outlook presentation, offering insights into trends and factors that may influence the farming sector in the coming months.

For additional information, interested individuals can contact Ann Kline, ANR Educator, at 260-636-2111 or kline60@purdue.edu. The event serves as an excellent opportunity for farmers to gain knowledge, connect with agricultural experts, and stay updated on important developments affecting modern agriculture.
