The Illinois State Fair has announced the winners of the 2026 Miles of Smiles Parade, one of the fair’s most anticipated annual events. Held in Springfield, Illinois, the parade brought together talented marching bands, creative float entries, specialty groups, and community organizations from across the state.
A major attraction of the event was the Marching Band Competition, which showcased outstanding musical performances and marching skills. The Mighty Marching Machine from Rich Township High School in Richton Park served as the Honor Band after earning the top position in the previous year’s competition.
In the 2026 contest, the Normal Marching Band from Normal secured first place. Rochester High School Marching Rockets from Rochester earned second place, while The Golden Wave Marching Band from Farmington Central High School in Farmington finished third.
The Commercial Float Contest featured impressive displays from local businesses. The Sunroom Tanning of Springfield won first place for its creative presentation. B.O.S. (Bank of Springfield) claimed second place, and INB (Illinois National Bank), also from Springfield, received third place honors.
Strong community participation was also seen in the Non-Commercial Float Contest. America’s Eagle from Georgetown captured first place. HSHS St. John’s Hospital of Springfield earned second place, while the Springfield Youth Hockey Association secured third place.
In the Specialty Unit category, Lanphier High School Cheer and Lionettes from Springfield earned first place with an energetic performance. Visit Springfield was awarded second place, and Cool Cruisers Car Club from Edinburg received third place recognition.
A special highlight of the evening was the presentation of the Governor’s Award to HOPE, a nonprofit organization based in Springfield. Established in 1957, HOPE serves individuals with disabilities and their families across six states.
Through educational, residential, and clinical services, the organization supports more than 6,000 individuals each year. Its innovative programs for children with multiple disabilities continue to make a meaningful impact on communities.
The 2026 Illinois State Fair continues through August 23 in Springfield. Fair officials encourage visitors to stay connected through social media platforms for the latest updates, announcements, and event information. The parade once again demonstrated community pride, creativity, and talent, making it a memorable part of this year’s fair celebrations.
