Food enthusiasts and travelers will have a unique opportunity to explore Illinois through the 2026 Illinois Pork Tenderloin Crawl. Organized by the Illinois Pork Producers Association, the event will run from September 1 through November 30, 2026, and highlights one of the Midwest’s most popular sandwiches, the breaded pork tenderloin.
The self-guided culinary adventure encourages participants to visit locally owned restaurants across the state and experience different versions of the classic sandwich. Travelers who visit at least eight of the eleven featured locations will receive an exclusive Illinois Pork Tenderloin Crawl T-shirt. In addition, everyone who completes a passport will be entered into a drawing for a $50 gift card.
Participating restaurants include Buford's Pub in Sadorus, River's Edge Inn in Dixon, Route 66 Motorheads in Springfield, The Dirty Bird in Sycamore, Cindy Bs Café in Murphysboro, Meadow Avenue Tap in East Peoria, LJs Garden Café in Magnolia, Beecher City Pit Stop in Beecher City, The Parkview Inn in Bloomington, Babes on Plum in Havana, and The Patio in Jacksonville.
Two restaurants featured in the crawl received special recognition during the 2025 Illinois Best Pork Tenderloin contest. Buford’s Pub earned the title of Illinois’ Best Pork Tenderloin, while River’s Edge Inn was named the runner-up, making both locations popular destinations for pork sandwich lovers.
Speaking about the event, Mikayla Schaefer, Director of Marketing with the Illinois Pork Producers Association, said, "Whether you're planning a weekend getaway or simply looking for your next favorite meal, the Illinois Pork Tenderloin Crawl is a fun way to experience great food while supporting local restaurants and communities. Every stop offers its own unique take on the classic pork tenderloin sandwich, making each visit a new experience."
Participants can take part using either a printed passport or a digital passport. Those using the digital version can scan QR codes available at participating restaurants and upload photos of their menu and pork tenderloin sandwich to confirm their visits.
Beyond promoting tourism and dining, the event highlights the role of Illinois pig farmers in providing high-quality pork to restaurants across the state. Their efforts help supply the flavorful ingredients that make pork tenderloin sandwiches a favorite menu item for many consumers.
