USDA Launches Relief Fund for Drought Hit Montana Farmers

USDA Launches Relief Fund for Drought Hit Montana Farmers

By Jamie Martin

The USDA is launching a new $16 billion Supplemental Disaster Relief Program starting July 10, bringing important support to farmers across the United States. The Montana Grain Growers Association (MGGA) is celebrating this major step, especially as Montana experiences its fifth year of drought.

This funding will help farmers recover from disaster-related losses such as drought, storms, and other climate challenges. The MGGA has worked for years to secure strong disaster support for producers, and this program is a direct result of those efforts.

Lyle Lohr, President of MGGA, expressed his appreciation, saying, “This strong commitment to agriculture aligns with Montana Grain Growers advocacy efforts over the years. I want to extend my gratitude to those in Washington, D.C., who have been listening to the needs of farmers.”

The relief program is expected to benefit not just Montana but farming communities nationwide. The money will assist with lost income, crop damage, and recovery costs, helping farms stay open and operating in difficult times.

Local producers are encouraged to contact USDA offices for help with applying. MGGA is also sharing updates and officer statements on its social media pages to keep members informed.

This is a positive moment for the agricultural community. With USDA's support and MGGA’s advocacy, farmers now have more resources to handle extreme weather and continue growing crops that feed the country.

MGGA continues its mission to protect and promote Montana farmers and ensure their voices are heard in policy decisions that affect their livelihoods.
