Phil Cardoso, an associate professor in the Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, has been appointed to the board of the American Dairy Science Association (ADSA). The ADSA, an organization dedicated to advancing the global dairy industry, selected Cardoso to serve as the production division director for a three-year term.
Cardoso, who also serves as a faculty specialist for University of Illinois Extension, runs the Dairy Focus Lab, where he conducts research on the relationship between cow nutrition and reproduction. His work focuses on providing data-driven best management practices to dairy producers, with a particular emphasis on metabolic adaptation, nutrition's impact on metabolism and health, and reproductive outcomes.
The appointment to the ADSA board recognizes Cardoso's substantial contributions to the dairy industry and his expertise in the field. Rodney Johnson, the head of the Department of Animal Sciences, praised Cardoso's research, outreach efforts, and teaching abilities, expressing confidence in his ability to make a significant impact in his new national leadership role.
In addition to his academic responsibilities, Cardoso has published numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts and book chapters, demonstrating his commitment to advancing knowledge in the field. He is also actively involved in professional organizations, having served as the president of the ADSA Midwest Section board of directors and as the chair of the Journal of Dairy Science Management Committee.
