Government appoints Brooke Rollins as USDA chief

By Jamie Martin

The Government has announced Brooke L. Rollins as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. Rollins, 52, is the founder of the America First Policy Institute and a strong advocate for rural communities.

With a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture and a law degree from Texas A&M University, Rollins brings both academic and practical expertise. Her upbringing in the agriculture-driven town of Glen Rose, Texas, and leadership roles in initiatives like 4H and Future Farmers of America highlight her strong connection to farming.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for the opportunity to serve as the next U.S. Secretary of Agriculture. It will be the honour of my life to fight for America’s farmers and our Nation’s agricultural communities. This is big stuff for a small-town ag girl from Glen Rose, TX — truly the American Dream at its greatest,” Rollins commented.

Rollins will oversee a $213 billion budget and more than 100,000 USDA employees, responsible for critical programs like farm aid, school nutrition, and rural economic development. She will also lead the efforts for a new farm bill and manage disbursement of a proposed $24 billion disaster relief package for farmers.

Her nomination has received support from farm organizations. Chuck Conner, CEO of the National Council of Farmer Cooperatives, praised her rural upbringing and dedication to agriculture. Emily Skor of Growth Energy emphasized the importance of biofuels in rural development.

As the second female Agriculture Secretary, Rollins is poised to advance agriculture through innovative policies while addressing challenges like soaring input costs, extreme weather, and global market pressures.
