The American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) crowned Skippy as the 2024 Farm Dog of the Year. Skippy, a remarkable mixed breed with Border Collie, Australian Shepherd, and Catahoula hound lineage, belongs to Georgia Farm Bureau members, Donald and Laura Adams. Skippy's exceptional role in aiding with cattle and providing crucial companionship during Donald's recovery from a serious injury earned her this prestigious recognition.
The contest, sponsored by Purina PetCare in collaboration with AFBF, highlights the multifaceted roles that farm dogs play in supporting and bringing joy to farm families. Additionally, John Wierwille's dog, Casper, won the People's Choice Pup title, securing online votes for his courage in protecting a flock of sheep.
This heartwarming event emphasizes the invaluable contributions of farm dogs as both dedicated working partners and beloved family companions. It shines a light on the profound bond between farmers and their four-legged friends, showcasing the unwavering support that dogs like Skippy provide during challenging times.
As we celebrate the Farm Dog of the Year, let's recognize the unsung heroes on our farms and the unique connections they share with farm families across the nation.
