WIU agriculture panel offers career insights

By Andi Anderson

The Western Illinois University (WIU) School of Agriculture recently organized its annual Alumni Panel, giving students the chance to engage with successful alumni from the agriculture industry.

This event provided an excellent platform for students to explore career options, understand the skills required for success, and start building their professional networks.

The panel featured alumni who are well-established in various sectors of agriculture, sharing personal stories of their career journeys.

They discussed how they transitioned from college to the workforce, highlighting the strategies they used to stand out in a competitive field. In addition, the alumni provided guidance on how students can better prepare themselves for future roles, with a strong focus on networking, securing employment, and developing crucial skills needed for long-term success.

Andy Baker, representing the WIU School of Agriculture, expressed his appreciation for the alumni’s participation. He emphasized the significance of this event for students, saying, “Our students were able to network and learn how to secure employment, develop a competitive advantage, and understand the skill sets needed to advance their careers in agriculture.”

The event concluded with an informal session where students had the opportunity to introduce themselves to the panelists.

This was a key moment for the students, as they were able to begin establishing meaningful professional connections that could help them as they advance in their careers.

The WIU School of Agriculture is grateful to the alumni panelists for taking the time to share their insights, which left a lasting impression on the students in attendance.

This event highlighted the importance of building a strong foundation of industry knowledge and professional relationships for a successful career in agriculture.
