Due to the inclement weather conditions across much of Illinois, farmers are struggling to carry out fieldwork. However, one farmer residing in the northern region remains optimistic that they will still be able to plant their crops on schedule.
According to recent reports, the area experienced an additional two inches of rainfall, adding to the already-saturated soil. Despite this setback, the farmer had their tractor connected to the planter and ready to go. Unfortunately, they are currently unable to proceed due to the wet conditions.
Looking ahead, the farmer predicts that they will not be able to make much progress in the coming week, as the forecast predicts more rain. Nevertheless, they remain hopeful that the weather will soon change, providing them with the opportunity to get started.
In terms of timing, the farmer usually starts planting soybeans around April 20th and finishes planting corn by the first week of May in an ideal year. With the temperatures beginning to warm up, they are eager for the weather to improve, allowing them to start their planting season.
