Illinois 4-H Youth Leadership Team Represented at Agriculture Legislative Day

The Illinois State 4-H Youth Leadership Team had a strong presence at this year's Agriculture Legislative Day event, which brings together various farm and agricultural commodity organizations, as well as other interested parties, to meet with sponsoring organizations, state senators, and representatives.

Representing the team were four members: Alex Paul from Wayne County, Naomi Dolan and Amanda Niemann from Montgomery County, and Emma Hughes, also from Montgomery County.

The 4-H Youth Leadership Team comprises 4-H members and recent alumni aged 16-21, who coordinate and assist with various area and statewide 4-H activities. They are involved in planning and executing events such as the Illinois 4-H Jr. Leadership Conference, Illini Summer Academies, and the Illinois State Fair.

They also serve as the training team for the Speaking for Illinois 4-H program and sit on various statewide 4-H committees and boards. Moreover, they represent 4-H at significant statewide and national events.

During the event, Naomi Dolan, the Chair of the Youth Leadership Team, gave opening remarks expressing gratitude to the agriculture industry for its hard work and innovation in providing reliable and sustainable food, clothing, and other resources. Agriculture Legislative Day is an annual event held in the spring.

The University of Illinois Extension administers Illinois 4-H, the flagship youth development program, through the College of Agriculture, Consumer, and Environmental Sciences. The hands-on approach of the program empowers young people to become leaders and prepare for a successful future. Research has shown that 4-H has a tremendous impact, with young people being more likely to contribute to their communities, make healthier choices, be civically active, and participate in STEM programs.
