Warren County 4-H shines at state fair

By Andi Anderson

Aubrey Killey, a dedicated 4-H member from Warren County, has once again made her mark at the Illinois State Fair. Competing in the 2024 Master Showman competition, Killey secured an impressive third-place finish, adding to her remarkable track record in this prestigious event.

The Master Showman competition is a highlight of the Illinois State Fair, where top 4-H members from across the state demonstrate their skills in showing three different species of livestock: swine, sheep, and cattle.

Each year, one representative from each county is selected to compete, and for the past four years, Killey has proudly represented Warren County. Her previous rankings include 17th, 8th, and an impressive 2nd place last year.

"This year, I knew the competition would be fierce, especially with the goal of improving on my second-place finish from last year," Killey shared. "I was up against some very talented showmen who have put in as much time and effort as I have. Although I didn’t take first place, I’m thrilled with my third-place finish. It’s an achievement I’m very proud of, and I’m the only person who has placed in the top three for multiple years in a row. I’m already looking forward to coming back next year to give it my all once again."

Killey was one of sixty participants in this year's competition, each bringing their best to the arena. Her consistent performance over the years highlights her dedication, skill, and the strong support she receives from her community and 4-H program.

As Killey continues her journey in showmanship, she remains a source of pride for Warren County. Her achievements at the Illinois State Fair serve as an inspiration to other young 4-H members, showcasing the rewards of hard work and perseverance in the competitive world of livestock showmanship.
