Citroniq and Future Origins have been named winners of the 2026 Radicle Corn Challenge, a global competition designed to identify innovative technologies that can create new demand for corn beyond traditional food, feed, and fuel markets.
Organized by Radicle Growth and supported by a coalition of U.S. corn grower organizations, the challenge was launched in January 2026 to encourage the development of new commercial uses for corn and corn-derived feedstocks. The competition attracted applicants from around the world working on technologies that convert corn into higher-value products for industrial, chemical, materials, and bioeconomy sectors.
As winners, Citroniq and Future Origins will receive investment support from Radicle Growth and participating corn grower organizations. Both companies were recognized for developing scalable solutions that position corn as a sustainable feedstock for emerging industries.

Citroniq is focused on transforming the plastics industry through the production of 100% bio-based polypropylene made from corn-derived ethanol. Its technology creates carbon-negative resins and intermediates that reduce reliance on fossil-based materials while supporting sustainable manufacturing.

Future Origins develops fermentation-based technologies that produce sustainable ingredients for home and personal care products. Using renewable feedstocks, including corn-derived dextrose, the company aims to replace ingredients traditionally sourced from palm oil and fossil-based materials.

The winners were selected through a detailed evaluation process examining technology readiness, market opportunities, commercialization potential, and expected impact on future corn demand. Their success demonstrates how innovation can create new markets for corn, strengthen rural economies, and support continued growth across the bioeconomy.
