USDA opens enrollment for 2025 safety programs

USDA opens enrollment for 2025 safety programs

By Jamie Martin

The USDA’s Farm Service Agency (FSA) has opened enrollment for its 2025 Agriculture Risk Coverage (ARC), Price Loss Coverage (PLC), and Dairy Margin Coverage (DMC) programs. These initiatives provide vital support to farmers and dairy producers facing economic uncertainties.

Farmers can enroll in ARC and PLC starting January 21, 2025, with the deadline on April 15, 2025. ARC offers crop-by-crop and whole-farm protection through ARC-County (ARC-CO) or ARC-Individual (ARC-IC), while PLC ensures financial assistance for price drops. Signed contracts are required for participation.

Enrollment for DMC begins on January 29, 2025, and closes on March 31, 2025. This voluntary program helps dairy producers manage market price differences for milk and feed. Fee waivers are available for eligible producers, including veterans and those from underserved communities.

FSA Administrator Zach Ducheneaux urged producers to take advantage of these programs, stating, “Our safety-net programs provide critical financial protections against commodity market volatilities for many American farmers, so don’t delay enrollment.”

Producers should consider how ARC and PLC selections may affect crop insurance eligibility for options like STAX, Supplemental Coverage Option, and Enhanced Coverage Option. Covered commodities include soybeans, wheat, oats, and others.

To learn more and apply, visit the USDA DMC webpage or contact your local USDA Service Center. Don’t miss the opportunity to secure your farm’s future.
