Princeville Farm and Ranch Days is a community event held in Princeville, Illinois, aimed at helping people learn about the importance of agriculture.
Hosted by German Bliss, the event brings together local farmers, agricultural businesses, and families for a day of learning and fun. It’s designed to reconnect people with the agricultural roots that are essential to society’s survival.
As fewer people are directly involved in farming today, the event helps bridge the knowledge gap. Greg German, CEO of German Bliss and one of the event organizers, believes agricultural education is more important than ever.
“People are getting further and further away from agriculture, even though it’s becoming more and more important to our society,” he says.
Visitors get to meet with various vendors and see firsthand the tools and technologies used in agriculture. One such vendor, Leo Johnson from Herman Brothers Fishery, focuses on educating people about aquaculture.
He explains how water ecosystems play a key role in agriculture. “I want to show them it’s a big deal in a pond to have a good ecosystem for your fish,” Johnson says.
Joddie Bauman, a local resident and attendee, sees the event as a way for people to understand how different businesses and farms support the community. “It’s a way for our community to come together and see all the businesses that make a rural community go,” she says.
The event also encourages young people to explore agricultural careers. As Greg German points out, agriculture is necessary for everyone. “Everybody has to eat,” he says, highlighting the need for future generations to carry agriculture forward.
Princeville Farm and Ranch Days is about more than farming—it’s about community, education, and ensuring a sustainable future for all.
