ISA Applauds Support for 40A Credit Benefiting Biofuels and Farmers

ISA Applauds Support for 40A Credit Benefiting Biofuels and Farmers

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) has praised Illinois congressional representatives for backing the extension of the 40A Blenders Credit. This tax credit supports biodiesel and renewable diesel, offering vital benefits to soybean farmers and rural economies.

Representatives Mike Bost, Nikki Budzinski, Darin LaHood, and Eric Sorensen have all signed on to House Bill 3137, which aims to continue the biodiesel and renewable diesel tax incentives.

Originally introduced in May, the bill extends the 40A credit to ensure biofuel producers remain competitive with petroleum-based fuels.

This bipartisan effort highlights the importance of clean energy, energy independence, and farm support. Illinois, the top soybean-producing state, will benefit from higher demand for soybean oil used in biodiesel, securing jobs and boosting rural communities.

Rep. Bost emphasized the role of Southern Illinois farmers in national energy goals. He said the bill supports reliable jobs and provides certainty to the biofuels sector. Congresswoman Budzinski called soybeans a vital part of Illinois’ economy and said the legislation supports investments in renewable fuels.

Rep. LaHood stated that this credit offers new opportunities for farmers and producers. Rep. Sorensen added that it helps keep biodiesel demand high, supports jobs, and strengthens rural economies.

ISA Chairman Ron Kindred expressed gratitude for the bipartisan support, noting the stability it brings to farming communities.

Illinois produces over 600 million bushels of soybeans annually. Its biodiesel industry, the fourth-largest in the U.S., produces nearly 192 million gallons per year and supports about 2,000 jobs.

The 40A credit helps reduce emissions and promote clean fuel use. Supported by major national organizations, it ensures continued investment in renewable energy and agricultural growth, benefiting both the environment and rural America.
