Winter wheat emergence has reached 90% in Illinois, ahead of the 5-year average of 83%. Winter wheat condition is also good, with 64% of the crop rated in good to excellent condition.
Favorable Weather Conditions Aid Fieldwork: Farmers in Illinois took advantage of favorable weather conditions last week, with 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork. The average temperature was 47.0 degrees Fahrenheit, 4.7 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.02 inches, 0.69 inches below normal.
Topsoil and Subsoil Moisture Conditions: Topsoil moisture supply was rated 11 percent very short, 38 percent short, 50 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 24 percent very short, 40 percent short, and 36 percent adequate.
Weather Outlook for the Week: Temperatures are expected to be above normal for most of the week, with highs in the 50s and lows in the 30s. Precipitation is possible on Monday and Tuesday, with totals of up to 0.5 inches.
Illinois farmers are making good progress on their harvest and preparing for the winter season. Favorable weather conditions have helped to advance fieldwork and crop development.
