Weather Conditions:

  • Statewide, the average temperature for the week ending November 5 was 41.5 degrees, which was 7.6 degrees below normal.
  • Precipitation for the week averaged 0.22 inches, which was 0.7 inches below normal.

Soil Moisture:

  • Topsoil moisture supply was rated as follows: 8% very short, 19% short, 69% adequate, and 4% surplus.
  • Subsoil moisture supply was rated as follows: 13% very short, 31% short, 55% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Crop Progress:

  • Corn harvested reached 90%, which was ahead of the 5-year average of 84%.
  • Soybeans harvested reached 95%, also ahead of the 5-year average of 88%.
  • Winter wheat planting reached 95%, compared to the 5-year average of 87%.
  • Winter wheat emerged reached 77%, compared to the 5-year average of 64%.

Winter Wheat Condition:

  • The condition of winter wheat was rated as follows: 1% very poor, 5% poor, 21% fair, 56% good, and 17% excellent.

Weather Information:

  • The report provides temperature and precipitation data for various districts in Illinois. Temperatures were consistently below normal, with departures ranging from -6.6 to -8.4 degrees Fahrenheit. Precipitation was generally below normal, with departures ranging from -0.41 to -0.97 inches.

Illinois experienced cooler temperatures and below-average precipitation during the week ending November 5, 2023. These conditions, crop harvesting, particularly for corn and soybeans, was ahead of the 5-year averages. Additionally, winter wheat planting and emergence were progressing well, with most of it planted and emerging in favorable conditions. Soil moisture levels varied across the state, with some areas experiencing shortages. The condition of winter wheat was generally reported as good and excellent.
