The Illinois Corn Growers Association (ICGA) is pleased to announce the opening of its third annual scholarship program, dedicated to supporting Illinois students committed to a career in agriculture.
The application period is now open, with a deadline of January 31, 2025, at 11:59 p.m. CST. This scholarship initiative is designed to help ease financial barriers for students aiming to contribute to the agriculture sector.
ICGA President Dave Rylander, a Victoria, Illinois farmer, expressed his excitement about this program, saying, “We're excited to deepen our commitment to supporting the next generation.
Our aim is to make sure that financial barriers don't stop anyone from following a career in agriculture.” Rylander highlighted the scholarship’s impact, noting that while it may not cover all expenses, it could provide valuable support.
To be eligible, applicants must meet certain criteria. They should be either high school seniors or post-secondary students pursuing an agriculture-related degree in Illinois.
Additionally, applicants must have an active membership with ICGA and can only receive the scholarship once. Scholarship recipients are also expected to attend at least one IL Corn leadership event within a year of receiving the award.
The application process includes a few key components. Applicants must complete an online application, provide at least one letter of recommendation from a non-family member, submit a current resume, and answer specific essay questions.
The essay requires applicants to discuss major issues in agriculture, outline their intended use of the scholarship, and explain their motivation for pursuing an agriculture career.
Through this scholarship, ICGA reaffirms its commitment to nurturing the future of agriculture in Illinois.
By supporting students in their education and encouraging participation in leadership events, ICGA hopes to inspire the next generation of agriculture professionals and ensure the vitality of Illinois’s agricultural industry.
