Explore Crop Science at Agronomy Days

The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign is once again bringing back its annual Agronomy Days series, offering farmers and agricultural professionals a unique opportunity to engage with the latest research and innovations in crop production. Scheduled from May through September, this year’s series will focus on productivity, profitability, and sustainability in farming.

Organized by the Department of Crop Sciences, the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), and Illinois Extension, Agronomy Days 2025 promises a variety of hands-on experiences. These include research tours, field days, and on-farm tailgate events that allow participants to see new technologies and practices directly in the field.

The series begins with the Small Grains Field Fest on May 23, held from 3 to 6 p.m. at Riggs Beer Company in Urbana. This kickoff event sets the tone for a season filled with learning, networking, and collaboration. Attendees can enjoy light refreshments at select events, and some gatherings will offer behind-the-scenes views into ongoing crop science research.

“The Agronomy Days series carries forward our decades-long tradition of Agronomy Day, with an emphasis on reaching a wider audience,” said Adam Davis, crop science department head. “We’ve intentionally scheduled events across the growing season and in multiple locations to highlight what’s happening in the field and make it easier for growers and other attendees to fit these continuing education opportunities into their busy schedules.”

Events are held across multiple locations and times, making it easier for busy farmers to attend. The College of ACES will also introduce new events throughout the season, encouraging growers to stay connected via the Agronomy Days calendar and social media channels.

By participating, Illinois growers gain valuable insights into how to make their farms more efficient, resilient, and future-ready.
