Zimmerman Goes Above and Beyond to Maintain Industry Certifications

Western Illinois University Assistant Professor of Supply Chain Management Honey Zimmerman has gone above and beyond to maintain industry certifications in supply management. She completed the professional development and continued education necessary to recertify as a Certified Purchasing Manager (C.P.M.) in August and Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM) in April. Both certifications have been globally recognized and issued by the Institute for Supply Management (ISM) as prestigious and highly-valued throughout the supply management industry.

"I chose to put in the necessary work to maintain these certifications because the profession is rapidly changing and advancing," said Zimmerman. "As someone who is educating future supply management professionals, I need to stay relevant and on top of these advancements."

Zimmerman, who has been with WIU for 12 years, is an assistant professor within the Supply Chain Management program. The SCM program is housed within the School of Management and Marketing in the College of Business and Technology and Zimmerman is another stepping stone to the mission of this department by preparing students for professional careers in a global economy through relevant, innovative and applied education.

WIU's Supply Chain Management program is a comprehensive purchase-to-delivery program that teaches all aspects of the supply chain process, from purchasing raw materials to delivery of the final service or product.

"Faculty currency, via both formal education and industry recognized certifications, are critical to ensuring the content we deliver to our students is timely, relevant, and current," said Dean of Business and Technology Craig Conrad. "Zimmerman's commitment to staying abreast of 'industry best practices' ensures a quality educational experience for supply chain management students and supports the college's interaction with industry partners."
