The University of Illinois agricultural education program has been honored with the 2024 Outstanding Postsecondary Agriculture Program Award by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).

This prestigious recognition was announced during the NAAE Convention, held from December 3-7 in San Antonio, Texas.

This annual award celebrates postsecondary programs that excel in preparing future agricultural leaders and educators. The University of Illinois program, part of the Agricultural Leadership, Education, and Communications department within the College of Agricultural, Consumer and Environmental Sciences (ACES), was recognized for its outstanding contributions to agricultural education.

The program offers an interdisciplinary curriculum that combines scientific knowledge with agricultural industry perspectives. Students engage in hands-on experiences, such as state-wide agricultural visits, leadership development activities, and flexible coursework.

Additionally, the program features an online master’s degree option for provisionally certified teachers, ensuring accessibility and addressing educational needs across Illinois.

Gary Ochs, an instructor in the program, expressed pride in the recognition, saying, "We are thrilled to receive this honor from NAAE. Our mission is to prepare future agricultural leaders through intensive, hands-on training, and it is fulfilling to see our graduates inspire and shape the next generation in agriculture."

The College of ACES partners with various organizations to enhance learning and promote community engagement. These collaborations further strengthen the program’s role in shaping the future of agriculture by equipping students with essential leadership and communication skills.

The NAAE, based in Lexington, Kentucky, is a professional organization representing over 9,000 agricultural educators nationwide. Its mission is to advance agricultural education through leadership, advocacy, and professional development.

This award highlights the University of Illinois’ commitment to excellence and its pivotal role in fostering future agricultural leaders.
