Livestock rollover training at spoon river

Livestock rollover training at spoon river

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Pork Producers Association is organizing a specialized training session aimed at equipping farmers, livestock haulers, and emergency personnel with vital skills for responding to livestock trailer rollover accidents.

This event will be held on Saturday, October 5, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Spoon River College, located at 2500 E. Jackson St., Macomb, IL 61455.

Led by Jamee Eggers, the training will cover critical areas such as livestock handling, managing accident scenes, extricating animals safely, and gaining familiarity with livestock trailers.

This hands-on experience will provide participants with the knowledge and confidence needed to effectively respond to accidents involving livestock transport, ensuring both human and animal safety.

The program is designed for a wide range of participants, including farmers, livestock haulers, law enforcement officers, fire departments, EMS personnel, dispatchers, and Emergency Management Agency (EMA) officials.

The training aims to ensure that first responders and agricultural professionals are well-prepared for these potentially dangerous situations.

This comprehensive session will help participants understand the complexity of livestock rollover accidents and the importance of handling animals with care during these emergencies.

The event organizers recommend that each agency or farm send two to three participants to ensure a more focused and manageable learning experience.

While there is no cost to attend the training, registration is required by September 30 to secure a spot. Early registration is encouraged as space is limited.

This valuable training opportunity not only enhances the knowledge of accident response but also fosters collaboration between the agricultural and emergency response communities to better manage these critical situations.
