ISU Alum and Insurance Agency Owner Selected by Governor as New Trustee

ISU Alum and Insurance Agency Owner Selected by Governor as New Trustee

Governor JB Pritzker has chosen a distinguished Illinois State University (ISU) finance alumnus and independent State Farm Insurance agent to fill a vacant position on the university's governing board. Pending confirmation from the state senate, Darren Tillis, a business owner based in Chicago, is expected to become the newest member of ISU's board of trustees.

With nearly 30 years of experience in finance and insurance, Tillis brings a wealth of expertise to the role. He currently owns and operates his own insurance agency in Chicago and has actively served in leadership capacities within various nonprofit organizations, notably as a board member of UCAN, a youth advocacy and development group in the city.

Tillis has received recognition for his community service and development work, having been honored with two awards from the Chicago Westside Branch NAACP. While his bid for Chicago alderman in 2015 was unsuccessful, his commitment to public service remains steadfast.

Upon his appointment, the ISU board of trustees will consist of six trustees and one student trustee, with a single vacancy remaining. The next board meeting is scheduled for July 28, where Tillis's confirmation and formal introduction are expected to take place.

Tillis's diverse background and professional acumen position him well to contribute to the advancement and governance of ISU.
