Megan Moroney Sets Illinois State Fair Grandstand Attendance Record

By Andi Anderson

Megan Moroney made a historic mark at the Illinois State Fair on Sunday night, setting a new attendance record at the Grandstand with 15,532 fans in the crowd.

The multi-platinum superstar, known for hits like “Am I Okay?” and “Tennessee Orange,” captivated the audience with her powerful performance, surpassing the previous record of 15,427 set by Lil Wayne last year.

Moroney’s performance has earned her a place in Illinois State Fair history, with the previous record holders including Jason Aldean (15,329 seats in 2011), Florida Georgia Line (15,204 in 2014), and Reba McEntire (14,823 in 2019). Hootie and the Blowfish also made the top five with 13,956 tickets sold back in 1995.

Governor JB Pritzker praised the event, stating, “Music unites people, and last night at the Illinois State Fair, a record-breaking crowd shared the unforgettable experience of a summer concert under the stars.” The Illinois State Fair's commitment to blending diverse genres and celebrating both established and rising stars was evident in the success of Moroney's performance.

Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, also expressed pride in the achievement, emphasizing that the fair's tradition of showcasing artists early in their careers was an essential part of their planning.

The Illinois State Fair continues through August 17, offering a variety of concerts for fairgoers to enjoy. Upcoming performances include Randy Houser and Night Ranger, Sheryl Crow, Snoop Dogg with Christone "Kingfish" Ingram, Brad Paisley, The Chainsmokers, Def Leppard, and Turnpike Troubadours.

For tickets to the remaining Grandstand concerts, visit the box office or Ticketmaster.
