The Illinois Soybean Association (ISA) honored five outstanding individuals at the 2024 ISA Achievement Awards on December 3 during the third annual ISA Impact Awards Banquet in Bloomington.
These leaders have made significant contributions to Illinois agriculture and the soybean industry.
The Chairman’s Award, the highest honor given by the ISA, was presented to Mark Gebhards. Gebhards has been a driving force in Illinois agriculture for over two decades. As Chief Strategy Officer for the Illinois Farm Bureau, he played a key role in lobbying, commodity programs, and agricultural collaborations.
He has also held leadership roles with several organizations, including the Illinois Pork Producers Association and the American Soybean Association.
The Farm Family of the Year Award went to Ron, Deb, and Michael Moore of Roseville, Illinois. The Moore family has been actively involved in ISA programming and is known for their commitment to sustainable farming.
Ron Moore has served as President of the American Soybean Association, while Deb Moore has held leadership roles with various civic organizations. Together, they have promoted modern agriculture both locally and internationally.
The Friend of Illinois Soybean Farmers Award was given to Dr. Aaron Hager, a Professor of Weed Science at the University of Illinois. With over 30 years of research, Dr. Hager has made groundbreaking discoveries in sustainable weed management and herbicide resistance. His work has had a significant impact on Illinois soybean and corn producers.
The Champion of the Year Award was presented to Jonathan Coppess, Associate Professor at the University of Illinois. Coppess has been instrumental in shaping agricultural policy and advocating for farmers. His research focuses on conservation, renewable energy, and farm support programs.
Finally, the Excellence in Media Award went to Rita Frazer, Audio News Manager for the Illinois Farm Bureau.
With over 30 years in agricultural broadcasting, Frazer has been a passionate advocate for Illinois agriculture and is recognized for her extensive work in media.
