The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development in Illinois is witnessing a transition in leadership. Former State Director Betsy Dirksen Londrigan has taken on a national role as the Rural Business-Cooperative Service (RBCS) Administrator. In her previous position, Betsy worked tirelessly to empower rural communities, collaborating with local leaders to drive positive change. With over 20 years of experience in the nonprofit sector, she brings a wealth of knowledge to her new role.
As Betsy moves into her national responsibilities, Molly Hammond, who has served as Deputy State Director for the past year, steps up as Acting State Director. Molly’s 18 years with USDA Rural Development make her well-equipped to lead the Illinois team. Her dedication ensures that the state continues to benefit from essential programs and services.
The Rural Business-Cooperative Service plays a pivotal role in supporting rural areas. It provides capital, training, education, and entrepreneurial skills to residents, enabling them to start businesses, find jobs in agricultural markets, and contribute to the bio-based economy. Notably, RBCS oversees the Rural Energy for America Program, which promotes energy independence while assisting ag producers and rural businesses in revenue generation and cost reduction.
Betsy Dirksen Londrigan expresses her gratitude for serving Illinois’ rural communities and looks forward to her new journey. Meanwhile, Molly Hammond’s leadership ensures that Illinois remains on the path of progress.
