Applications are now open for the 2025 Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) State Ambassador Internship. This paid opportunity allows one student to serve as the State Ambassador, representing both the association and the broader pork industry.
The selected intern will work from the Springfield office during the summer months (May - August) and will hold the ambassador title for a full year.
Key responsibilities include managing the birthing center at the 2025 Illinois State Fair from August 7 to 17, presenting at Summer Ag Institutes for teachers, attending the annual youth leadership summer trip, and participating in various industry events throughout the summer. The role emphasizes education, communication, and leadership within the pork industry.
The 2025 Illinois Pork Ambassador will receive a $3,000 stipend, paid in $1,000 increments from June to August. Additionally, upon successfully completing the internship, the ambassador will receive a $2,500 scholarship, which will be paid directly to their educational institution.
Applicants must be planning to enroll in either an undergraduate or graduate program for at least the fall semester of 2025.
Qualifications:
Must be an Illinois resident aged 18 to 23
Strong background in pig husbandry is required
Must demonstrate excellent communication, organizational, and leadership skills
A genuine interest in the Illinois pork industry and the ability to advocate on its behalf
Previous participation in the Illinois Livestock Leadership Institute (formerly IPLI) is recommended
Must be a member or willing to join the Illinois Pork Producers Association
Must have reliable transportation and be open to out-of-state travel for training and events
May only serve in the role for one year
In-person interviews for the internship will be conducted on October 17-18 in Springfield. This position is ideal for students passionate about agriculture, communication, and leadership, providing them with valuable industry experience and professional development.
