The Illinois Extension will present the latest in agricultural research, technology, and best practices at the Greater Peoria Farm Show, held from Dec. 3 to Dec. 5.
Attendees can meet with specialists from the University of Illinois Extension, who will provide insights into farm leasing, grain marketing, estate planning, soil fertility, digital technology, and more. This event aims to support farmers by offering research-based knowledge on topics that directly impact local agriculture.
As the agricultural landscape changes rapidly, it becomes essential for producers to stay informed on innovative solutions that may improve farm productivity. “Agriculture continues to be a quickly evolving industry with new technologies emerging almost daily,” says Illinois Extension Commercial Agriculture Educator Tara Heath.
With rising input costs and tighter margins, the need for cost-effective solutions is greater than ever. The Extension’s involvement at the show offers an accessible way for farmers to explore these technologies and assess their potential.
A new feature at this year's show includes daily presentations by Illinois Extension educators and University of Illinois faculty.
The presentations will cover topics like managing financial risk, increasing nitrogen use efficiency, and planning farm succession. Visitors can check the full presentation schedule to select sessions relevant to their operations.
The Greater Peoria Farm Show not only serves as a platform for sharing knowledge but also showcases practical applications of research. “Our participation gives us an opportunity to showcase what we can offer to local farmers and homeowners,” says Illinois Extension Farm Business Management and Marketing Educator Kevin Brooks.
Attendees can view demonstrations of the latest agricultural technology and attend seminars designed to help them apply this knowledge effectively.
Supporting the agricultural community remains a key focus for the Illinois Extension. In recent years, they have increased staffing in west-central Illinois, adding four new agriculture educators to better serve local needs.
“Extension has a long history of supporting agriculture at the local level,” says Janice McCoy, Illinois Extension assistant director for Region 2. Events like the Greater Peoria Farm Show highlight Illinois Extension’s commitment to helping farmers succeed.
Attendees can visit the Illinois Extension booth for more resources and can speak with educators and specialists from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday and from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Thursday. The event is free and will be held at the Peoria Civic Center, with free parking available.
