Illinois State Representative Dan Swanson (R-Alpha) is taking a proactive approach to empower local farmers by collaborating with the Farm Bureau to host a series of Farmland Assessment Seminars. Set to occur on August 21 and 22, these seminars aim to provide valuable insights into the implications of increased farmland assessments on property taxes.
As a farmer himself, Swanson recognizes the significant influence that elevated farmland assessments can have on farmers' livelihoods. He emphasizes that understanding this system and its consequences is pivotal for farmers' well-being.
The seminars are scheduled as follows:
- Monday, August 21, 1 p.m. at Spoon River College Community Outreach Center, Macomb
- Monday, August 21, 3 p.m. at Warren-Henderson Farm Bureau Office, Monmouth
- Tuesday, August 22, 8:30 a.m. at Knox County Farm Bureau, Galesburg
- Tuesday, August 22, 11 a.m. at Lavender Crest Winery, Colona
All farmland owners and farm managers, regardless of county residency, are welcome to attend. Brenda Matherly, Director of Local Government Affairs at the Illinois Farm Bureau, will provide attendees with comprehensive insights into farmland assessment calculations and their lasting implications.
