As the eagerly awaited total solar eclipse approaches, the Illinois Department of Agriculture (IDOA) introduces hassle-free online registration for campers at the Du Quoin State Fairgrounds. Just in time for this celestial event, which is set to attract global tourists, attendees can now secure their camping spots conveniently.
The Eclipse Weekend package offers a fantastic deal at $100 for a four-night stay from Fri., April 5 through Tues., April 9, providing campers with a spacious 50’ x 20’ site. Located within 20 miles of the solar eclipse path of totality on April 8, the fairgrounds offer an ideal vantage point for this extraordinary celestial phenomenon.
While the entire country will witness a partial solar eclipse, only those within the narrow path of totality will experience the mesmerizing total solar eclipse. Lasting an impressive four minutes and nine seconds, the eclipse is not just a celestial marvel but also promises a considerable regional economic impact.
Jerry Costello II, Director of the Illinois Department of Agriculture, expressed excitement about partnering with SIU and local organizations to host visitors from around the world. The Du Quoin State Fairgrounds camping package is designed to make accommodations both convenient and affordable, ensuring an enjoyable eclipse experience.
Southern Illinois University (SIU) Carbondale, in collaboration with NASA, is hosting the Southern Illinois Crossroads Eclipse Festival. Leading up to the main event, Eclipse Day at Saluki Stadium, a guided eclipse experience, promises numerous events, outreach programs, and research initiatives.
