Western Illinois University's Ag Mech Club is gearing up for its 52nd annual Farm Expo, set to take place on Saturday, Feb. 17, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Feb. 18, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at WIU's Western Hall. Drawing thousands of agriculture enthusiasts from three states, the expo is a free event for families, students, and anyone curious about the latest advancements in farming technology.
The Farm Expo promises a diverse range of attractions, including displays on tractors and machinery, livestock, crop suppliers, farm buildings, and conservation efforts. For families attending, there will be a crafts vendor to explore, along with a bounce house for children to enjoy after face painting.
Andrew Baker, director of the WIU School of Agriculture, expressed excitement about the opportunity to showcase the department's research and highlight the vital role of the agricultural industry in the region. The expo has become a significant annual event, celebrating innovations in agriculture and contributing to Macomb's economic development.
This year's expo anticipates a turnout of as many as 5,000 people. The tradition, initiated in 1970 by Ed Bree, former faculty advisor for the AG Mech Club, continues to be a focal point for agricultural enthusiasts. WIU alumni can also look forward to the Aggies and Friends social on Feb. 17, sponsored by Big Iron at Park Place restaurant in Macomb, where distinguished agricultural classmates will be honored.
