USDA Announces Annual Cash Rents and Leases Survey

USDA Announces Annual Cash Rents and Leases Survey

By Andi Anderson

The U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) is set to conduct its annual Cash Rents and Leases survey beginning Feb. 5. This survey plays a crucial role in providing estimates for the current year's cash rents across various types of agricultural land, including irrigated cropland, non-irrigated cropland, and permanent pasture.

Over 241,000 survey recipients throughout the United States, including 8,903 in Illinois, have been selected to participate. Farmers can conveniently complete the survey online at agcounts.usda.gov, by mail, or by phone, with a response deadline of February 20.

Mark Schleusener, Illinois State Statistician, emphasizes the importance of broad survey responses to ensure accurate representation of cash rental rates in specific localities. The data collected will serve as a valuable tool for landowners, aiding them in negotiating rental agreements and making informed business decisions for their agricultural operations.

Additionally, the information gathered from this survey contributes to the Farm Service Agency Conservation Reserve Program, serving as an alternative soil rental rate before finalizing new rates each year.

NASS adheres to federal law, maintaining confidentiality of survey responses. The aggregated data will be published on Aug. 2 at the state level and on Aug. 23 at the county level on https://quickstats.nass.usda.gov/.

For survey assistance or more information, contact the NASS Heartland Regional Field Office at (800) 551-1014 or visit https://www.nass.usda.gov/Surveys/
