Trenton Taber, a 2015 graduate of Western Illinois University's (WIU) Agriculture Education program, has been honored as the Region 4 Outstanding Agriculture Teacher by the National Association of Agricultural Educators (NAAE).

This prestigious award highlights his dedication to agricultural education, innovation in teaching, and commitment to student development.

Taber currently teaches agriculture at Cambridge High School, where he has built a reputation for fostering leadership and personal growth among his students.

He attributes his success to the guidance and mentorship he received during his journey in agricultural education. "My career as an agriculture teacher wouldn't be anything without the mentors and support I've received throughout Illinois Ag Education," Taber said, acknowledging the contributions of his colleagues and mentors.

The recognition from NAAE reflects Taber's relentless efforts to provide students with exceptional learning opportunities and to inspire them to achieve their best.

According to WIU Agriculture Director Andrew Baker, "Mr. Taber's recognition is a testament to his work ethic and dedication. He has not only impacted his students but also contributed significantly to WIU by offering professional development for pre-service teachers."

WIU's Agriculture Education program stands out in Illinois for its exceptional teacher placement rate and comprehensive curriculum. The program combines hands-on, field-based learning experiences with strong academic foundations, ensuring that graduates are well-prepared for successful teaching careers.

With a focus on leadership and practical skill development, WIU agriculture students consistently outperform in assessments required for Illinois teaching licensure.

Taber's achievements underscore the impact of WIU's program and its commitment to producing outstanding educators. His recognition by the NAAE highlights the importance of dedication and innovation in shaping the future of agricultural education.
