Online cannabis programs for 2025

Online cannabis programs for 2025

By Andi Anderson

The University of Illinois Springfield (UIS) has collaborated with Green Flower, a leader in cannabis education, to offer five online certificate programs designed to prepare individuals for careers in the growing marijuana industry. These six-month programs are fully online, providing flexibility for participants to complete their studies while managing other responsibilities.

The available certificate programs cover a variety of key areas within the cannabis sector, including:

  • Cannabis Healthcare and Medicine: This program focuses on the medicinal uses of cannabis, providing healthcare and retail professionals with essential knowledge to guide patients and consumers effectively.
  • Cannabis Agriculture and Horticulture: Students in this course gain practical insights into cannabis cultivation, covering everything from plant genetics to pest management and sustainable growing practices for both indoor and outdoor environments.
  • The Business of Cannabis: This program provides a comprehensive understanding of the cannabis industry, touching on retail operations, marketing strategies, and real estate opportunities within the sector.
  • Cannabis Compliance and Risk Management: Designed to teach the legal and regulatory aspects of the cannabis industry, this course covers licensing, compliance best practices, and risk management techniques.
  • Cannabis Product Development and Design: Participants learn the science of cannabis extraction and the creation of various cannabis products, such as edibles and tinctures.

Each program is priced at $325 per month, making it an affordable option for those looking to enter the cannabis field. Graduates receive a certificate of completion, as well as a digital credential issued by Credly, which can be shared on professional platforms like LinkedIn.

Moreover, graduates gain access to the Green Flower Institute Employer Network, enhancing their visibility in the job market. The programs also offer improved rankings for cannabis-related job opportunities on CareersinCannabis.com.

UIS highlights the convenience of these programs, which allow participants to study at their own pace. The first classes of 2025 have already begun, but registration is still open until January 13. For more information and to enroll, visit the UIS website.
