IL Corn announces 2025 legislative priorities

IL Corn announces 2025 legislative priorities

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Corn Growers Association (IL Corn) has announced its legislative priorities for 2025, aiming to secure a sustainable future for over 50,000 Illinois corn farmers.

With a focus on federal and state policies, IL Corn seeks to enhance market opportunities, conservation practices, and farm programs.

At the federal level, IL Corn is working to expand ethanol demand by opposing regulations limiting ethanol use and supporting new legislation, such as the Next Generation Fuels Act.

The association emphasizes the importance of free trade to boost exports of corn, ethanol, and related products. Additionally, IL Corn advocates for preserving crop insurance programs and ensuring farm policies meet the needs of Illinois farm families.

Significant progress has also been made in upgrading locks and dams on key waterways, with ongoing efforts to begin new projects, such as at LaGrange.

On the state level, IL Corn is pushing for renewable fuel initiatives to promote ethanol's role in reducing carbon emissions. New technologies like Carbon Capture and Sequestration could open doors to products like Sustainable Aviation Fuel, supporting cleaner fuel markets.

Conservation is another key focus, as IL Corn supports programs that help farmers adopt sustainable practices while meeting environmental goals. Protecting state funding for conservation districts and research centers is essential to their mission.

IL Corn also supports livestock initiatives and maintains regulatory frameworks for livestock siting and expansion, ensuring a stable environment for the state's agricultural economy.

“Our mission is to create a vibrant future for Illinois farmers through advocacy and strategic partnerships,” said Garrett Hawkins, ICGA President. IL Corn remains committed to improving opportunities for farmers while fostering a stronger agricultural economy.

This comprehensive plan highlights IL Corn's dedication to addressing the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead for the farming community.
