Illinois Rural Development Conference 2026

Illinois Rural Development Conference 2026

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Institute for Rural Affairs will host the 37th Annual Rural Community and Economic Development Conference on February 25 and 26, 2026, in Springfield, Illinois.

The event will be organized in partnership with the Governor’s Rural Affairs Council and Rural Partners.

The conference will take place at the President Abraham Lincoln Hotel and will bring together community leaders, business professionals, educators, and policymakers.

The conference focuses on strengthening rural communities by encouraging local action and leadership. Many studies show that successful rural development begins with people within the community who identify opportunities and work together to improve their towns.

Residents often prefer living in smaller towns when good opportunities are available. This event will highlight how local groups have used their strengths to create growth and stability.

Key topics will include improving healthcare services, supporting youth employment, enhancing housing options, and turning local attractions into successful tourism opportunities.

Participants will learn practical strategies that can be applied in their own communities. The main message is that development begins with local initiative and teamwork.

Early Bird registration cost $275 per person for those who registered before February 5, 2026. After February 5, and for on-site registrations, the fee is $325.00 per person.

The registration fee includes networking events on both evenings, lunch on Wednesday, continental breakfast on Thursday, and refreshment breaks. Refunds were not issued after February 1, but participants are allowed to send a substitute if needed.

Reduced hotel room rates of $110 per night are available only for attendees who booked before February 3, 2026. Free parking passes will be provided for guests staying at the hotel who use the attached self-parking garage.

Exhibit space is also available for organizations interested in showcasing their services. Each booth includes a six-foot table and one complimentary registration. Refreshments will be served in the exhibit area to encourage networking and engagement.

This conference offers valuable opportunities to learn, connect, and support rural growth.
