Southern Illinois University Carbondale is set to host its 57th annual Ag Field Day at the Belleville Research Center on Thursday, July 11.

This agriculture event, aimed at farmers and the public, will take place at 2036 Charles Lane near Scott Air Force Base. The event is free, open to the public, and will proceed rain or shine. No corresponding event is scheduled in Carbondale this year.

Organizers anticipate around 200 attendees for the event, which does not require pre-registration. Sponsored by the SIU College of Agricultural, Life, and Physical Sciences, Ag Field Day will commence with a welcome address at 8:30 a.m.

The main program will start at 9 a.m., featuring expert speakers discussing various agricultural topics, including corn and soybean trends, weed control and herbicide programs, and cover crops.

A representative from the Illinois Farm Bureau will provide an update on the organization’s current efforts. This comprehensive program aims to offer valuable insights and practical knowledge to those involved in farming and to engage the general public with agriculture.

Lunch will be served at noon, giving attendees a chance to network and discuss the morning’s presentations. Following lunch, participants are invited to stay for additional tours focusing on weed science trials.

This part of the event offers certified crop adviser credits, providing professional development opportunities for those in attendance.

The SIU Belleville Research Center’s Ag Field Day is a significant event for the local farming community, providing a platform for education, discussion, and networking. It reflects SIU’s commitment to supporting agricultural practices and engaging with the community.

The event's open format ensures that both farmers and the general public can benefit from the wealth of information presented.

Overall, the Ag Field Day promises to be an informative and engaging event, highlighting important agricultural trends and practices while fostering a greater understanding and appreciation of farming.
