Illinois Winter Wheat Emergence Behind Average



There were 5.2 days suitable for field work during the week ending Sunday. Statewide, the average temperature was 57.9 degrees, 9.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.13 inches, 0.18 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 10 percent very short, 12 percent short, 76 percent adequate, and 2 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 14 percent very short, 24 percent short, 61 percent adequate, and 1 percent surplus.

Corn harvested for grain reached 88 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 85 percent.

Soybeans harvested reached 94 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 89 percent.

Winter wheat planted reached 95 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 88 percent. Winter wheat emerged reached 45 percent, compared to the 5-year average of 71 percent. Winter wheat condition was 5 percent very poor, 8 percent poor, 53 percent fair, 29 percent good, and 5 percent excellent.
