The Illinois Pork Producers Association (IPPA) concluded its 2023 donations by contributing a substantial amount of ground pork to the Midwest Food Bank as part of the "Pork Power: Partnering to Fight Hunger in Illinois" initiative. Yesterday marked one of the final end-of-year donations, a testament to the ongoing commitment to support communities in need.
Representatives including Pat Bane from IPPA, John Klemm from the IL Corn Director's office, and members of various organizations such as the Illinois Soybean Association, the Illinois Association of Meat Processors, ISU Redbird Sports Properties, and Steidinger Foods came together at the Midwest Foodbank in Normal, IL, underscoring their dedication to this impactful cause.
Pat Bane, a board representative of IPPA and a pig farmer, highlighted the significance of the "Pork Power" program, emphasizing the essential role it plays in providing much-needed protein to those less fortunate. "Since 2008, we've partnered with industry allies to offer over 3.3 million servings of healthy, nutritious pork to those in need," Bane expressed.
Matt Moran, the general manager of ISU Redbird Sports Properties, expressed gratitude for the support extended by the Illinois Pork Producers Association. He acknowledged the program's dual benefit of adding excitement to Illinois State Athletics while also ensuring essential protein provisions for the Bloomington Normal Community.
In 2023, in collaboration with industry partners, IPPA generously donated approximately 50,000 pounds of ground pork to nine regional food banks. This significant contribution aimed to address the crucial need for protein in communities facing food insecurity.
