Illinois Pork hosts livestock rollover training

By Andi Anderson

The Illinois Pork Producers Association is set to host a crucial training session on livestock trailer rollover response at Spoon River College in Macomb, Illinois, on Saturday, October 5.

This event is designed for producers, livestock haulers, law enforcement, fire departments, EMS personnel, and emergency management agencies to enhance their skills in managing livestock accidents on the road.

The training will run from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM and will provide a comprehensive introduction to the complexities involved in livestock truck rollovers. Jamee Eggers, an expert in livestock handling and transportation, will lead the session.

The training will cover essential topics such as animal handling, scene management, trailer familiarization, and extrication techniques. Participants will gain valuable insights into managing the scene safely and effectively while ensuring the well-being of the animals involved.

Animal handling and extrication in emergency situations require specialized skills, especially when dealing with frightened or injured livestock. The training will also focus on maintaining control over the animals to prevent further injuries and manage the scene efficiently.

With increasing transportation of livestock across state lines, the likelihood of encountering rollover accidents has grown, making this training critical for those involved in the industry.

The training is open to producers, livestock haulers, law enforcement, fire and rescue personnel, EMS, dispatch, and emergency management agencies.

It aims to equip participants with the knowledge and tools necessary to handle livestock rollover accidents confidently and safely.

While the training is free of charge, prior registration is required. Participants are encouraged to limit their registrations to two to three individuals per agency or farm to ensure a diverse group of attendees. The registration deadline is September 30.

Spoon River College, located at 2500 E. Jackson St., Macomb, IL, will serve as the training venue. This event represents a proactive effort by the Illinois Pork Producers Association to enhance safety and preparedness within the agricultural community.

Participants will leave better equipped to handle livestock emergencies, ensuring safer roads for both animals and humans alike.
